Communication Is Crucial!

Implementing any changes that have a significant impact across the business practice requires precise and timely communication to your internal staff and external patients/families/carers.


Internal Communication Checklist

  • Update fee policy and billing procedures.
  • Advise all staff about the fee changes.
  • Make sure all staff understand what is required of them when communicating the changes to patients.
  • Assign a key staff member who can assist staff with information and support when implementing the new fee policy.
  • Provide an opportunity for your staff to provide feedback after new fees have been introduced - for example, three months after share how the process has gone.

External Communication

  • Ensure patients/families/carers have been notified about the fee changes promptly? Communicate as early as possible to patients changes to fees.
  • Considered the following communication pathways to patients?
  • Practice Information Sheet.
  • Clear signs in the practice.
  • Footnote on paper receipts.
  • Website home page.
  • Updates in Practice Newsletters.
  • Notice on the waiting room TV.
  • Advise essential services that refer to you, ie. mental health team, NDIS providers, community services.
  • Ensure your complaints/feedback procedure is displayed to patients in the waiting area and on your website?

  • Clear signs in the practice.
  • Footnote on paper receipts.
  • Website home page.
