In these days of rapidly rising costs, it has become critical for businesses to manage input costs and ensure teams are working productively at all times – time lost is profit lost.

SimPRO is job management software that’s designed to streamline tasks and help everyone work from the same page to keep projects rolling along efficiently – and within budget.

What it does

Designed with trade contractors in mind, SimPRO covers a number of aspects of project workflow. It generates quotes, manages inventory, and features functions for invoicing and receiving payments. By tracking field personnel time, SimPRO allows for accurate costing and billing.

SimPRO can also be used for asset maintenance scheduling. It lets users capture asset defects and test readings, register new assets and access test history from the field. In this way, SimPRO can automate asset maintenance schedules and provide alerts and notifications of key maintenance dates.

Key strengths

From a data analytics and reporting perspective, SimPRO can help in five key areas:

  • Inventory management – the software allows monitoring of stock levels, and picks up on price discrepancies, so businesses can avoid being charged incorrectly by suppliers.
  • Workforce reports – SimPRO allows users to view field staff activity, completed tasks, employee and contractor licensing status and job costs per employee. It’s also possible to measure how well teams are working with labour productivity reports.
  • Project tracking – keep projects on track and monitor budgets through work in progress reports, job summaries, costs to complete and a list of jobs at all stages.
  • Financial data – SimPRO generates a number of financial reports including profit/loss, sales invoices, monthly breakdown and aged receivables reports.
  • Customer service – By identifying the average response time for jobs and tracking customer records, SimPRO lets a business see whether it is living up to its promise of great client service, and identifies those customers that are generating the most business.

To streamline projects further, SimPRO connects with QuickBooks and Xero for simplify accounting and job management.

Potential downsides

Like many software programs, it can take time at the set-up stage to integrate SimPRO into your own accounting system. However, SimPRO offers a number of eBooks, webinars and customer support to streamline the process.

The verdict

SimPRO may be suited to businesses using large teams or teams spread across a variety of locations as it allows everyone to know where they need to be, and what they need to do. In this sense, SimPRO can be a cost saver, potentially eliminating unnecessary phone calls and conversations to determine job status, order status, keep teams informed and minimise down time.
