With almost a decade of experience in the taxation and business advisory sector, Matthew has a broad cross-section of expertise in many different industries. An upbringing in the rich agricultural area in the South-East of South Australia provided the platform for a considered understanding and appreciation for all kinds of farming businesses. It fostered Matthew's keen interest in small business. He specialises in many areas, including management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, compliance, and tax planning. Matthew’s commitment to his role saw him move up to Senior Manager in 2021, then Associate in 2022, and recently Principal in 2024.
A practical, minimal fuss attitude is the backbone of Matthew's approach to working with clients. This philosophy is driven simply by listening to clients and understanding their challenges, finding the best strategies and solutions for each situation, and then communicating and implementing the processes required in easy-to-understand language.
Matthew has a keen interest in budgeting and management reporting, particularly as a tool to help clients understand their current financial performance, establish goals, and employ strategies to meet those goals. Utilising the latest technology and software allows Matthew to drive these processes and minimise the bookkeeping burden for many clients, allowing them to focus their energy on core business operations and strategy.
"I educate clients by understanding their financial position and performance, which allows us to establish goals and build towards the future," says Matthew.
Working with farmers who are proud and passionate about their business operations is what excites Matthew the most. Providing financial knowledge to make the operation as profitable as possible is something he enjoys working with business owners to achieve. The introduction of new processes and technology to assess financial performance and budgeting, benchmarking, and forecasting are some of Matthew's strengths.
Matthew's agricultural client base ranges from broad-acre cropping, beef cattle and sheep grazing operations, viticulture, horticulture, and all mixed-farming operations in-between.
Having grown up in a mixed-farming environment, Matthew understands the lingo and appreciates that many farmers don't need a complicated answer; they want good advice.
Small Business & New Business Owners
Matthew has a keen interest in working with small businesses in their formative years. He thoroughly enjoys working with individuals who are stepping out on their own and making the transition from employees to business owners. Matthew has followed this journey with several clients throughout his professional career, ranging from electricians and builders to physiotherapy clinics and earthmoving contractors.
A passion for seeing a business become established and then provide the owners with financial security and freedom drives Matthew's passion in this area.
